How I Got Scammed Trying To Attend The VMA's

September 05, 2016 by Chet Kincaid

On this Labor Day I will like to share a little story about losing hard-earned money.

As Joanne the Scammer made her debut at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards I encountered my first scammer. Yes, that is right I was scammed out of $200.00 dollars trying to attend the 2016 VMA's by using Craigslist. This could have been avoided but one must understand my personality. When I want something I am persistent in obtaining it, even if I have to trip and fall along the way.

Resisting The Heteronormative Blueprint: A Gay Man (NSFW)

August 10, 2016 by Chet Kincaid

Hello Readers,

The time is now for me to be speak about a topic that I ignored for a long time. It took me quite some time to get to this point, accepting all of myself; I never thought I would be here. I want to say New York City is truly a place for reinvention. Before I moved to NYC I would look at other gay men and cast judgement upon them for being themselves, in such an open manner. I later realized it had nothing to do with them and everything to do with my fear and insecurities. Time, growth, exposure and a diverse environment are all cures to such feelings. Although I am about to open up I am still a huge believer in what you give to the world you cannot take back so forgive me if my method of approach to this blog post is a bit calculated. I write this blog post for my family with prying eyes, anyone who is misinformed or anyone who is simply curious.

How White Inclusion Affects The Perspective of Many Black People, In America

July 08, 2016 by Chet Kincaid

In the wake of these horrific and heart breaking shootings of black men (Alton Sterling and Philando Castile) there has been an outcry for justice and lots of support being directed towards the #BlackLivesMatter movement. However, there are some people who are coming under fire for having an opinion that is not necessarily in line with helping the erasure of injustice. On Monday’s episode of The Wendy Williams Show, Williams spoke about the petition to get Jessie Williams fired by ABC. Well, the very successful Shonda Rhimes said that is not happening. Wendy Williams then went on to “try” and explain how white people could possibly be offended.

June 28, 2016 by Chet Kincaid

Who watched the BET Awards this past Sunday? I did not but I saw the highlights which included Grey's Anatomy cast member, Jesse Williams, accepting the 2016 BET Humanitarian Award. So before I briefly comment, take a listen to his speech from Sunday evening.

Hurdling White Lines: Dodging Cocaine

June 21, 2016 by Chet Kincaid

Hello readers, it has been a few months since the previous post. I feel it is safe to say that my thought vault on race is closed, for now. So what shall we discuss? Oh, let us speak about cocaine. That is right, that good ol’ “blow.” Since moving here, to New York City, I have encountered (not used, let us be clear) this common drug a handful of times.

You might ask how or where in the hell were you to even be around cocaine? So before I clarify all of that let us remember that I am from The Bahamas. Back home, people smoke weed but cocaine and other street drugs are frowned upon, greatly. Even if people snort cocaine back home it is done so very discretely. This is not the case in New York City and in fact many people who read this post will probably say, “Get Over Yourself or you are making a big deal out of nothing.” Well, call me lame for speaking about being in the presence of it but it is a big deal.

So America, What Is Wrong With Identifying As Biracial?

March 23, 2016 by Chet Kincaid

In the photo above do you see a white man, a black woman and black children? Well, by most United States’ standards the answer to the question is yes but from this seat I see an interracial couple with biracial children. The young boy may be of the same complexion as the mother but the fact that his father is white should classify him as biracial. Biracial, defined as “concerning or containing members of two racial groups” is a term that is not really acknowledged by a lot of Americans. As I am a biracial son to a black mother and white father I am about to personally explore the issues of being biracial, identifying as such yet being perceived as black as I take a deep breath.

Let me give you some background on myself. As I mentioned in the first post I was born, raised and lived in The Bahamas up until the age of twenty-five. Things are just so different back there when it comes to race. I remember as a little child always being questioned, “Is that your father?” My father is much older so that paired with race created confusion for people. I was teased and called “white boy” for the way I acted, spoke and because I was not of a dark or brown skin complexion. My parents never once sat me down for a discussion about race but by both parents being in my life I acknowledge them both and identify with both.

Adapting To Race In the United States: 242 To 212

March 14, 2016 by Chet Kincaid

Before I begin, a topic such as race is extremely sensitive and it is for this reason I try to handle it with care. It is not my goal to bash or be condescending towards anyone but it is my desire to give my opinion from this particular seat while trying to understand the other side. This article is focused on the races of black and white as both of these are apart of me. More specifically, it is putting a spotlight on two sub-categories of the black race: the African American (Black American) and the black West Indian. With the perpetual prejudices running throughout these races I hope that whoever reads this is able to understand some current feelings a little bit better.
